Justice Kaufman Home After Surgery
SAN FRANCISCO — State Supreme Court Justice Marcus M. Kaufman has been released from a hospital after surgery for colon cancer and the prospect for his full recovery is excellent, the court announced Tuesday.
Kaufman was recuperating at home after his release Monday afternoon from Long Hospital at the University of California Medical Center here, the court said. The 58-year old justice underwent surgery Oct. 30.
According to court officials, Kaufman already has begun participating in court business by telephone and courier from his residence in San Francisco. He joined in the justices’ regularly weekly closed conference Tuesday, sending along his votes on scores of cases being considered for formal review by the court.
It is expected that Kaufman will be back at the court’s headquarters here next month.
