Mesa Ltd. Partnership of Amarillo, Tex., corporate raider T. Boone Pickens Jr.’s investment vehicle, announced that it has bought 9.9% of the common stock of Singer, an aerospace firm headquartered in Montvale, N.J. Mesa said it acquired the shares because of the potential for an increase in their market value and that it does not now intend to seek control of the company. Last week, Singer received an unsolicited $1.08-billion offer for the company from Florida investor Paul A. Bilzerian. Singer has not responded to the offer.
