A Marine based at Camp Pendleton was killed Sunday morning when the tractor-trailer rig he was driving to the Marine Corps base at Twentynine Palms crashed in Riverside County, the California Highway Patrol reported.
Identity of the driver was being withheld pending notification of next of kin, a Marine Corps spokesman said.
The CHP said the supply truck was northbound on Interstate 215 south of California 74 near Sun City when the vehicle drifted off the right shoulder and overturned down an embankment.
A Marine passenger in the truck, also unidentified, suffered serious injuries, the CHP said.
