Escondido 17, Rancho Buena Vista 16--Tim Bone threw touchdown passes of 11 and 15 yards to Gabe Sanchez and kicked the winning 20-yard field goal with 1:28 to play to give Escondido (2-6, 2-3) the win at home. Bone completed 13 of 26 passes for 211 yards. Rancho Buena Vista took the lead, 16-14, in the third quarter when O.J. Hall scored on a 28-yard run.
Ramona 15, San Pasqual 13--Jason Gonzales recovered his own fumble and ran 52 yards for a touchdown with five minutes remaining to give visiting Ramona (3-5, 2-3) the victory. San Pasqual (3-5, 3-2) had taken a 13-7 lead on Juan Garcia’s four-yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter. With five minutes left, Gonzales fumbled the snap from center but emerged from a pile-up with the football and raced around right end for the touchdown.
El Camino 13, Carlsbad 0--Eric Robinson threw a 13-yard touchdown pass to Freddie Spears in the second quarter to give El Camino all it needed to win at home. The Wildcats did not score again until the final play of the game when Sean Lang recovered a fumble and returned it 30 yards. Carlsbad (3-5, 1-4) fumbled four times, including once on the El Camino 13-yard line. Wayne Tuitasi recovered two fumbles for El Camino (4-4, 3-2).
Oceanside 21, San Marcos 7--Greg Frazier ran 26 yards for a score and Matt Tuisee returned an interception 50 yards for another touchdown during a 15-point third quarter that carried Oceanside (3-3-2, 3-1-1) past host San Marcos. Terry Vaughn added a touchdown for Oceanside on an 11-yard run in the fourth quarter. San Marcos (3-3-2, 3-2-0) had taken a 7-0 lead in the second quarter on a 32-yard touchdown run by Vaughn Webb.
CITY CENTRAL
Christian 13, Hoover 10--Christian’s defense intercepted a pass by Stacy Domaille to stop a Hoover drive at the five-yard line in the final 1:30. Visiting Christian (4-4, 2-1) broke a scoreless tie when David Jeremiah threw a 52-yard touchdown pass to Scott Holmes in the third quarter. Hoover (2-6, 1-2) came right back on a 62-yard touchdown pass from Domaille to Jerome Gross. Tyrone Upton ran for the conversion to put Hoover ahead, 8-7. Midway through the final quarter, Christian’s Wade Clancy scored on a five-yard run.
Lincoln 48, Crawford 14--Freddie Stokes threw touchdown passes of 4, 22 and 44 yards to John McCartney and Darren Wagner ran for three scores as Lincoln (6-2, 3-0) defeated Crawford at Mesa College. Crawford (5-3, 2-1) turned the ball over 6 times and was called for 16 penalties for 146 yards. Lincoln converted the Colts’ first three turnovers into touchdowns and took a 34-0 lead midway through the second quarter. Keith Gilbert completed 20 of 36 passes for 278 yards for Crawford, but the Colts were held to minus-1 yard rushing. Crawford scored only one touchdown in the second half despite Gilbert’s 225 passing yards.
St. Augustine at San Diego--The game was rescheduled for tonight at 7:30 because the referees did not show up Friday night.
CITY EASTERN
Point Loma 33, Serra 0--Lewis Guillory, playing for the second game in place of injured tailback Kelby Downey, scored on first-half runs of 15 and 4 yards. It was the third shutout victory and second in a row for visiting Point Loma (8-0, 3-0). Point Loma also had second-half touchdowns by wide receiver Joe Besand on a 55-yard pass from quarterback Mike Bennett, fullback David Cipranic on a 1-yard run and running back Ron Lawson on a 3-yard run. Serra (1-7, 0-3) lost its sixth game in a row and its third by shutout.
Patrick Henry 14, Mira Mesa 0--Mira Mesa had the sixth-ranked defense in San Diego County before the game, but Patrick Henry’s defense made the difference. The Patriot defense allowed only 77 yards in total offense, held Mira Mesa to minus-28 yards rushing and had 10 sacks in the second half. Lance Lowery, who completed 14 of 17 passes for 143 yards, threw a 12-yard touchdown pass to Len Bradley in the second quarter. Khalil Short six yards for a touchdown in the same quarter. Patrick Henry, which was penalized 9 times for 85 yards, had two touchdowns called back in the third quarter.

CITY WESTERN
La Jolla 24, Kearny 20--John Tribolet rushed for two touchdowns and passed for another as La Jolla (7-1, 3-0) came from behind to win. Tribolet completed 7 of 14 passes for 224 yards. On the second play of the game, Tribolet threw a 72-yard pass to Adam Lenain at the four and scored himself on the next play. Brent Woodall gave La Jolla a 10-0 lead with a 47-yard field goal. Kearny took the lead before halftime, however, when Eric Mercado scored on runs of 1 and 18 yards and Tommy Rollins scored on a 12-yard run. Tribolet brought La Jolla back in the second half, scoring on another four-yard run in the third quarter and on a four-yard pass to Lenain in the fourth. Tribolet’s 57-yard pass to Sean Edwards set up the winning touchdown.
USDHS 14, University City 7--Matt Siesel’s 48-yard return of a blocked punt with two minutes left in the game was the difference at University City. John Montali blocked the punt. USDHS (7-1, 2-1) took a 7-0 lead on a 10-yard run for a touchdown by Tony Moeder. University City (1-5-1, 0-2-1) tied the game on a 36-yard touchdown run by Tommy Rawlins. USDHS’ Matt Christian rushed for 82 yards in 15 carries to lead both teams.

COASTAL
Bishop’s 14, Julian 12--Tom Phanco threw a 33-yard touchdown pass to Brett Daniel with nine minutes remaining as host Bishop’s (7-1, 4-0) clinched its first Coastal League championship. Julian (5-2, 2-2) took a 12-7 lead in the third quarter when Curtis Small returned a punt 72 yards for a touchdown.
GROSSMONT 2-A
Valhalla 12, El Capitan 7--Valhalla (2-6, 1-1) scored twice in the first half and held on for the upset at El Capitan (5-3, 1-1). Andy Johns scored on a two-yard run in the fourth quarter for El Capitan. John Lopez caught what appeared to be the winning touchdown for El Capitan on the last play of the game, but the catch was ruled out of the end zone.

METRO-MESA
Sweetwater 22, Montgomery 0--Pierre Jones rushed for 119 yards and 2 touchdowns on 15 carries at Sweetwater (6-2, 3-0). Jones scored on a 53-yard run on the game’s third play. The Sweetwater defense held Montgomery to 75 yards in total offense and forced six turnovers. Montgomery is 3-5, 0-2.
Chula Vista 29, Southwest 3--Paul Geering, the county’s sixth-ranked passer, threw for 167 yards and 3 touchdowns for Chula Vista. Geering threw scoring passes to Shawn Miranda, Steve Trainor and Jerry Fairfield. Marquis Howard, the county’s No. 5 rusher, had 95 yards in 14 carries. Visiting Southwest is 2-5-1, 0-3.
METRO-SOUTH BAY
Hilltop 16, Marian 0--Roy Zendejas rushed 11 times for 116 yards and a 10-yard touchdown to lead host Hilltop (1-6, 1-1) past Marian (2-6, 0-3). Zendejas’ touchdown gave Hilltop a 7-0 lead in the second quarter. Rob DePerro kicked a 27-yard field goal to make it 10-0 and then closed out the scoring with a 75-yard interception return late in the third quarter.

PALOMAR
Orange Glen 32, San Dieguito 18--Trailing 18-17 in the fourth quarter at San Dieguito, Orange Glen rallied when Jason Sowers scored touchdowns on a 17-yard pass and an 85-yard run. Orange Glen (5-2-1, 2-2) led 17-0 as Dennis Esposito scored on runs of 1 and 16 yards and Shannon Zinje kicked a 37-yard field goal. San Dieguito (5-3, 1-3) rallied to take an 18-17 lead as Eric Franssens scored on runs of 3 and 40 yards and quarterback Brett Ward threw a 40-yard scoring pass to Drew Davidson.
Fallbrook 21, Torrey Pines 9--Mike Turiace, the county’s second-ranked passer, threw two touchdown passes to Darrow Nelson and one to Aaron Tapia at Fallbrook. Torrey Pines (3-4-1, 1-4) had 304 total yards, but was stopped on three occasions on fourth and short in Fallbrook territory. Turiace completed 12 of 26 passes for 163 yards for Fallbrook (6-2, 3-1). Nelson, the county’s No. 2 receiver, caught scoring passes of 25 and 11 yards and had 6 catches for 135 yards. Tapia caught 3 passes for 39 yards, including an 11-yarder for a touchdown, and gained 104 yards rushing in 16 attempts.
