County Birthday Party Won’t Be a Surprise
Speakers will begin spreading the word about Orange County’s upcoming 100th birthday in a presentation Thursday before the Costa Mesa Chamber of Commerce. Orange County marks its first century of as a county in 1989, but festivities are to begin in August, 1988.
Orange County Centennial Inc. a nonprofit organization chartered to oversee a year of events, has formed a speakers bureau to address groups and generate public interest in upcoming centennial festivities. More than 100 activities are planned. Officials predict an estimated 10 million participants.
Cities and communities will join in organizing many events. Major county-based businesses, including American Airlines, Disneyland, the Irvine Co., The Times, the Orange County Register, the Santa Margarita Co. and C.J. Segerstrom & Sons, have joined as early sponsors.
Events will end in August, 1989. Groups interested in a presentation may call the centennial office at (714) 834-1989.
