Marine Dies After Asking to Be Shot in Arm or Leg
A 20-year-old Marine who had asked to be shot in the arm or leg so he could get out of the service died Saturday after being mistakenly shot in the head Sept. 24, authorities reported.
The shooting occurred in San Diego, and the victim, identified by the San Diego County coroner’s office as Anthony Lamont Jackson, died in the intensive care unit at Mercy Hospital.
San Diego police said Saturday no arrests have been made in the case, which remains under investigation.
Deputy Coroner Charles Kelley said that information given to his office indicated that Jackson was shot by a woman.
“He had asked her to shoot him in the arm or leg so he could get out of the Marine Corps,†Kelley said. “So she turned her head, her hand was shaking and she shot. He got hit in the head.â€
Jackson, who lived on Glenn Vista Street in San Diego, was stationed at Camp Pendleton.
