BEIJING — A giant panda, the mother of six cubs and prolific by panda standards, has given birth to her seventh baby at the Chengdu Zoo in central Sichuan province, the New China News Agency said Friday.
The cub, whose sex has not been determined, was born Sept. 17.
It was the seventh baby for Mei Mei, the news agency said. The panda has been nicknamed the “heroic mother of pandas” since she gave birth to the first cub conceived by artificial insemination in 1980, New China News said.
