Costa Mesa : Attorney Pat Herzog to Be Honored by ACLU
Corona del Mar attorney Pat Herzog, in recognition of her 30-year dedication to the cause of civil rights, will be honored by the county chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union at a dinner Friday at the Red Lion Inn in Costa Mesa.
Other groups joining in recognizing Herzog’s career and dedication to civil rights issues include the Legal Aid Society and Amicus Publico, a group of public interest lawyers affiliated with the Legal Aid Society.
Herzog began practicing law in 1957. Several of her cases have attracted statewide and even national attention, including Sullivan vs. Sullivan, the 1982 divorce case in which she argued for a woman’s right to a share of her husband’s future earnings, based on her financial support of his professional education during their marriage. As a result of that case, the Legislature passed a law establishing that the professional educations and careers of either or both spouses are to be treated as an asset of the marriage.
Herzog was the first Legal Aid Society attorney in the county and a founding member of the county ACLU chapter and now serves as chairwoman of the lawyers committee.
