Plan for Camarillo Mall Calls for Relocating High School
CAMARILLO — A report prepared for the city proposes that the 2,000-student Adolfo Camarillo High School be relocated to make way for a regional shopping center.
The consultant, POD of Santa Ana, said the project area contains about 126 acres located north of the Ventura (101) Freeway and the intersection of Adolfo Road and Mission Oaks Boulevard.
The plan proposes the relocation of the high school, built in 1954, to a 48.8-acre site along Adolfo Road adjacent to Calleguas Creek. School officials estimate cost of a new campus at $30 million.
The mall would contain up to 1 million square feet on a 55.5 acre site.
The plan, now under review by the city Planning Department, includes a community recreation area and an 18-acre park.
The city Planning Commission will conduct public hearings before sending its recommendations to the City Council.
An alternate plan would leave the school on the hill and develop low-and medium-density homes on the surrounding agricultural property.
