Joey Sindelar played the final 10 holes in seven under par Thursday and finished with a six-under-par 65 to take a one-stroke lead in the first round of the $400,000 B.C. Open golf tournament.

Jay Delsing was second at 66, and Antonio Cerda was another stroke back after 18 holes on the En-Joie Golf Club course.

“The last 10 holes, seven under, that will certainly turn you around and get it going in the right direction,†said Sindelar, a native of nearby Horseheads, N.Y.

“It wasn’t a pretty round of golf,†the 1985 B.C. Open champion said.

Pretty or not, Sindelar’s performance on the front nine--his final nine holes--was enough to overtake Delsing, who posted his score earlier.
