H. J. Heinz’s profit rose 13.3% to $97.2 million for the first quarter. The Pittsburgh-based food manufacturer said sales rose 15% to $1.25 billion. The sales gain reflected an 8% increase in volume, supplemented by the effects of acquisitions and the weakness of the dollar.
