Girl Gets 25 Yrs. to Life in Killing
OAKLAND — A 17-year-old Fremont girl was sentenced to 25 years to life in state prison today for the first-degree murder of a Japanese exchange student.
Gina Florio was given the maximum sentence in Alameda County Superior Court during an emotional one-hour hearing by Judge Martin Pulich, who cited the “viciousness and callousness†of the crime. Florio was convicted for the slaying of Junko Owaki, 18. The victim was stabbed more than 100 times and robbed of $2,200 on Feb. 18, 1986. Florio’s co-defendant, Corey Glassman, 17, is scheduled for sentencing in the same court on Wednesday.
