TOKYO — A mild earthquake rocked the top of Mt. Fuji on Thursday, the fourth tremor in eight days, the Central Meteorological Agency said. The quakes were the first felt by humans on the active volcano since a weather observatory opened near its top in 1932, said Seiji Tateyama of the agency’s observation department.
Thursday’s quake measured 1 on the Japanese scale of 7. Last Thursday, another tremor measured 3 on the Japanese scale, and two weaker earthquakes were reported on Sunday and Monday, he said. A quake registering 1 on the scale is perceivable by humans, and one measuring 3 can rattle windows and doors.
Tateyama said there was no danger of eruption at the mountain, which records indicate has erupted 10 times, the last in 1707.
