JACKSONVILLE, Ark. — A small, yellow tiger cat named Garfield saved his owners’ lives when it woke up Mike West and his wife about 4 a.m. Thursday, Fire Capt. Bobby Laws said.
“Old Garfield must have noticed that the couch was on fire,” Laws said, “because he jumped on the couple’s bed and started scratching.”
At first, West pushed the animal aside. Then he noticed smoke from the living room and woke his wife, Laws said.
Both the Wests and the cat fled unharmed from the house, which received about $6,000 in damage, he said.
