Senegal Envoy’s Son Loses Right to Drive
WASHINGTON — Senegal’s ambassador to the United States has surrendered his son’s driver’s license to the State Department because of an accident last week, a department spokesman said Tuesday.
Ambassador Falilou Kane turned in the license of his son, Sidy Kane, 20, on Monday at the request of the department, according to Richard Gookin, assistant chief of protocol.
Sidy Kane was given two traffic citations carrying $800 in penalties after his car struck another car on Aug. 10 and he allegedly left the scene, according to District of Columbia police.
But he cannot be forced to pay the fines or appear in court unless diplomatic immunity is waived.
