A U.S. bankruptcy judge in Detroit overrode objections from the British government and approved an agreement in which creditors of John Z. DeLorean’s failed sports car company will be paid $9.36 million. Creditors had pressed claims against DeLorean’s bankrupt firm estimated at about $100 million. Dismissing objections from a lawyer for the British government, which had claimed an estimated $80 million, Judge Ray Reynolds Graves upheld the deal in which creditors are to paid over two years by a Utah company that DeLorean controls. Principals in the case said DeLorean will ultimately get back full control of assets estimated to be worth at least $20 million.
