Van Nuys Reaches Babe Ruth Final
Jason Edwards pitched the Van Nuys-Sherman Oaks Babe Ruth League all-star team to a 7-5 victory Thursday over Oakland to advance to the final round of the double-elimination tournament in Taylorsville, Utah.
Edwards allowed two hits and one unearned run in 6 innings, walked two and struck out nine. Reliever Mark Kurtz replaced him after six innings but when he struggled and allowed four runs, Edwards re-entered the game to record the final two outs.
Chris Lohman and Robbie Davis led a seven-hit attack with two hits and one run batted in each. Chris Vesquez drove in two runs.
Van Nuys-Sherman Oaks, which is 3-0 in the tournament, plays in the final round Saturday against the winner of today’s Oakland-Hawaii game.
