SAN DIEGO — Striking machinists here have approved a new contract with General Dynamics’ Convair Division, ending a 25-day walkout, but Convair officials notified the union Thursday that not all striking workers will have jobs to return to because the firm hired 556 non-union workers during the dispute and their jobs were guaranteed by the company.
Union officials said their bargaining position was severely eroded when about 1,100 machinists crossed the picket line during the strike.
