Accused Nazi war criminal John Demjanjuk said the Soviets forged an identity card linking him to the Polish death camp where he is alleged to have been involved in the killing of thousands of Jews. Winding up his first week of testimony at his trial in Jerusalem, Demjanjuk argued that the Soviet KGB secret police had concocted the card, a vital link in the prosecution case, to make it appear that he was “Ivan the Terrible,†a notorious guard at the Treblinka camp. The 67-year-old retired Cleveland auto worker was extradited from the United States last year.
