Local News in Brief : Auto Runs Light, Rams Police Car; 1 Injured
A Los Angeles police officer was slightly hurt in a collision with a drunk driver who ran a red light early Thursday in North Hollywood, authorities said.
Sgt. George McCormick, who was answering a police call, was northbound on Whitsett Avenue when the other driver, Jose Alberto Cordova, 28, of Van Nuys, entered the Vanowen Street intersection on the red light and struck the police car, Sgt. Will Doiron said.
McCormick was treated at a hospital for bruises to his right leg and left knee, Doiron said.
Officers detected “a strong odor of alcohol†on the breath of Cordova, who was arrested on suspicion of felony drunk driving, Doiron said.
Cordova also was treated for minor injuries. He was being held in Van Nuys Jail, Doiron said.
