NWA’s earnings were up 112% to $50.6 million in the second quarter. Operating profit rose 258.4%, the St. Paul, Minn.-based parent of Northwest Airlines said. The company attributed its improved financial performance to strong traffic increases coupled with a 15% jump in yield, the measure of revenue per passenger mile.
