The Save the Redwoods League made its most expensive purchase ever of a stand of the giant trees, paying $6 million to Louisiana Pacific Corp. for an 11-mile strip of 673 acres in Mendocino County. The stand of second-growth, 100-year-old trees will be used as a park. It is along the Navarro River on California 128 between Pacific Coast Highway and U.S. 101. Louisiana Pacific bought the land from Masonite Corp. last year and immediately entered into negotiations with the environmental group.
