County Surfers Advance in Oceanside Event

Brothers Kirk and Lloyd Tice of Huntington Beach on Tuesday were among 64 surfers, out of a field of 128, who advanced to the second round of the Stubbies Pro surfing tournament at the Oceanside Pier.
Chris Mauro and Christian Fletcher, both of San Clemente, and Laguna Beach’s Jeff Booth also advanced to today’s second round.
The tournament’s top surfers, including defending champion Tom Curren of Carpinteria and Australia’s Barton Lynch, will begin competition Friday.
Surfing begins today at 6:30 a.m. with the first round of the women’s competition, the Michelob Cup. The men’s heats begin at 7:30 a.m.
