Brad McNamara, former Sunny Hills High School basketball star, has been named an assistant basketball coach at the University of Alabama in Huntsville.
McNamara, 36, was an All-Southern Section guard at Sunny Hills and led the Lancers to the 4-A championship game in 1969. He later became a junior college All-American at Fullerton College and finished his playing career at San Diego State. He has coached at six high schools, including Savanna, where he was head coach.
“I spent eight years at the high-school level and always desired to be a college coach,” McNamara said. “I felt the time was right to make the move. It’s very difficult to break into college coaching, and I feel fortunate there was this opportunity open in Alabama.”
McNamara will be an assistant under newly appointed Coach Michael Scarano.
