Irvine, Woodbridge Meet in Baseball
Irvine High School will meet Woodbridge for the championship of the Irvine Baseball Assn. tournament today at UC Irvine.
The Vaqueros, which lead the three-team, double-elimination tournament, 2-0, will play Woodbridge at 4:30 p.m. If Irvine wins, it will be champion. If Woodbridge wins, the two teams play again at 8 p.m. for the title.
Friday, Irvine defeated University, 8-2, with Kevin Obergfell picking up the win and Scott Vollmer helping with two RBIs. Scott McCorgary led University with two singles and a home run.
Thursday, George Koutures went 4 for 4 with four RBIs and a home run to lead Irvine to a 11-3 victory over Woodbridge. Sophomore John Bretza allowed four hits and three runs for the win.
In another game Thursday, pitcher Eric Brougher led Woodbridge to a 4-3 victory over University. The Warriors scored two runs off two errors in the top of the eighth for the victory.
Admission to today’s championship game is $2 for adults and $1 for senior citizens and students with identification.
