Prisons in L.A. County
The state Senate’s authorization of two prisons should be applauded by all law-abiding citizens of Los Angeles as well as the state. And the location of one prison on the fringe of the downtown area is, indeed, reasonable as it would be near the courts, not in a remote area of the county that would require countless tax dollars simply to provide transportation of prisoners to and from court.
The protesting groups who do not want a prison in East Los Angeles should take heart. The two sites under consideration near downtown Los Angeles are on the opposite side of the Los Angeles River, far removed from residences and schools.
