The world Communist movement grew in membership by 7.6 million last year, a Hoover Institution report said. Membership grew to 89.8 million in comparison to the 1986 figure of 82.2 million, the “1987 Yearbook on International Communist Affairs” said. China has the highest party membership with 44 million while Russia is second with 18.5 million, the yearbook said. Romania was in third with 3.5 million. The yearbook is a collaborative project undertaken each year by the International Studies Program of the institution at Stanford University.
