An unidentified Latino man walking along California 163 was hit and killed Sunday evening, the California Highway Patrol reported.
CHP spokeswoman Celina Nickerson said Morse Herbert, 59, of San Diego was driving south on 163 by Friars Road about 9:45 p.m. when he spotted the dark-clothed pedestrian in front of him.
According to Nickerson, Morse swerved to avoid the man. But the victim, in an effort to escape the car, jumped in the same direction as Herbert’s car.
Authorities have been unable to identify the body.
