Irvine-based Opera Pacific will venture outside of Orange County for the first time when the group takes two of its three 1988 productions to Palm Springs. Slated to be performed at the McCallum Theatre for the Performing Arts at the Bob Hope Cultural Center in Palm Springs are Verdi’s “Aida” on Jan. 31, 1988, and Robert Wright’s and George Forrest’s “Kismet” (based on music by Borodin) on Feb. 23. Casting is expected to be the same as for the performances at the Orange County Performing Arts Center in Costa Mesa in early 1988. The Palm Springs dates are underwritten by the Palm Springs Opera Guild. Completing Opera Pacific’s second season at the Orange County Performing Arts Center will be Strauss’ “Die Fledermaus,” Feb. 26 to March 6.
