CBS Cancels Nielsen Contract

NEW YORK — CBS, whose nightly news show anchored by Dan Rather has fallen into third place in recent weeks, today canceled its contract with A. C. Nielsen Co., saying the network is not satisfied with the new “people-meter” ratings system and wants further modifications made before the fall season starts. ABC canceled its contract with Nielsen earlier this year.
