The newspaper, which will celebrate its fifth birthday Sept. 15 and broke into the black in May, ran up a total of about $233 million in operating losses since it was launched in 1982, company officials announced. Total revenue for 1987 was estimated to be in “the $250 million range,” the officials said, adding that the paper’s heaviest losses came during the development years of 1983, 1984 and 1985.
