Lakeside Boy Dies of Gunshot Wound
A 12-year-old Lakeside boy has died of an accidental gunshot wound to the head he suffered while he and a friend were playing with a handgun, the coroner’s office said.
Matthew Ronald Shinkan, son of Michael and Leah Kazemier, died at 6:50 p.m. Thursday at Children’s Hospital. He was a student at Lakeside Middle School.
The Sheriff’s Department has classified the incident as an accident. The youth and a 12-year-old friend found a small-caliber handgun Wednesday morning while playing. Funeral services are pending.
