Local News in Brief : Boy Sees Stepfather Fatally Shot in Reseda
A Reseda man was shot to death in front of his 13-year-old stepson in the parking lot of a mini-mall Sunday night, Los Angeles police said.
The man, David Chavarria, 32, was pronounced dead of a gunshot wound in his upper chest shortly before midnight at a shopping center on the corner of Tampa Avenue and Saticoy Street in Reseda, Detective Pat Conmay said. Chavarria’s stepson was not injured.
Police were called by the boy, Conmay said.
The boy said his stepfather had gone to the shopping center about 11:30 p.m. to return a car he had borrowed, the detective said. Shortly thereafter, the boy told police, Chavarria got into an argument and was shot, Conmay said.
The youth said there were at least two people arguing with his stepfather, but that he did not hear what the argument was about and did not see who had shot Chavarria, Conmay said.
Police have no suspects and know no motive for the shooting, he said.
