A fire broke out early Saturday in a neighborhood mini-mall, destroying a liquor store and seriously damaging two adjacent businesses, a Fire Department spokesman said.
Battalion Chief Bill Edmundson said the blaze erupted at 3:10 a.m. at the small mall at the corner of Crescent and Knott avenues. The 10 companies of firefighters who responded took 45 minutes to extinguish the fire, he said.
There were no injuries.
Edmundson said the fire started in the attic of Crescent Liquor Store and spread to two businesses, Cloth World and a vacant barbershop. He said damage to the three businesses was assessed at $260,000.
He also said that a nearby restaurant, dry cleaners and travel agency received minor smoke. The cause of the fire was under investigation.
