W. Paul Thayer, the former deputy defense secretary convicted two years ago of obstruction of justice in connection with an insider stock trading case, has been named to the board of Computerbase International Inc., a small Irvine-based computer design and development company. The company said Thayer will oversee Computerbase’s executive management committee.
In 1985, Thayer admitted that he had lied to the Securities and Exchange Commission in 1983 when he denied under oath that he had passed insider tips to his stockbroker and other associates. He was sentenced to four years in prison and fined $5,000. He was released this year after serving 19 months of the sentence.
