BRISBANE, Australia — A plane carrying a wounded woman to a hospital crashed shortly after takeoff in Bundaberg in heavy fog Sunday, killing her and three others aboard, police said. A fifth passenger, a doctor, survived.
Police said the plane took off on what was to have been a 200-mile emergency flight from Bundaberg airport to a Brisbane hospital with a 45-year-old woman who had been shot in the stomach during a domestic incident.
The crash also killed a nurse, an ambulance officer and the pilot. A doctor aboard the air ambulance survived but reportedly suffered shock and burns.
