FPPC Chairman Fined for Gifts
SACRAMENTO — Fair Political Practices Commission Chairman John Larson failed to report $123.52 in meals and hotel accommodations from an insurance industry-paid trip last year to Carmel, Atty. Gen. John K. Van de Kamp said Friday.
Larson, a Long Beach attorney who was appointed to his post by Gov. George Deukmejian, was fined an amount equal to the unreported gift, the maximum statutory penalty for violating the reporting provisions of the state’s Political Reform Act.
According to Van de Kamp, the Assn. of California Life Insurance Companies paid for meals and hotel accommodations for Larson and his wife at the Quail Lodge in Carmel last September and reported the payments as a gift to Larson.
