Local News in Brief : D.A. Will Not Charge Parents in Death of 2-Year-Old Son
No criminal charges will be filed against the parents of a 2-year-old Northridge boy who died last week after being treated for an ailment by a neighbor, a deputy district attorney said Friday.
The boy’s parents, Maria Angelica Lugo, 20, and Manuel Gonzalez, 24, did not intend to harm their son, Jesse Gonzalez, when they took him to a neighbor who injected him with an antibiotic they had purchased at a Sun Valley swap meet, Deputy Dist. Atty. Linda Greenberg said. The boy died June 11 of a lung abscess about 12 hours after the injection, the Los Angeles County coroner’s office reported.
Authorities first suspected that the boy’s death was related to the injection administered by Concepcion Colio, 49, of Van Nuys.
The city attorney’s office is considering the filing of misdemeanor charges against Colio as well as the woman who sold the antibiotics to the boy’s parents, Deputy City Atty. Susan Frauens said. Charges being considered against the two women are the sale of prescription drugs without a license and the unauthorized practice of medicine, she said.
Police said the antibiotics were purchased from Santa Elba Hernandez, 42, of Sun Valley.
