Local News in Brief : 6 Burbank Students Arrested in Kidnaping

Six Burbank high school students were arrested Monday on suspicion of kidnaping after they pulled a female schoolmate into their car through a window and drove off, Burbank police said.

The girl escaped soon after when she climbed back out the window, Sgt. Rick Madrid said.

The six students arrested, 17- and 18-year-old seniors at John Burroughs High School whose names were not released by police, were being held Monday night at the Burbank police station jail, Madrid said. They claim the incident was intended as a prank, he said.

The six students were driving near their school in the 300 block of North Parish Place around noon when they spotted the girl, a 10th-grade student, and called her over, Madrid said. The girl, whose name was also being withheld, recognized one of them and went over to the car, he said.

When she got to the car, she was pulled in through an open window and the car sped off, the police spokesman said. The girl told police that one of the group put his hand over her eyes as they drove, he said.

When the car slowed to a stop a block away, near Parish Place and Alameda Avenue, the girl escaped through the window, falling and scraping her hand, then running off, Madrid said. She fled to her home, which was nearby, and her parents called police, he said.
