New Zealand Stays

The article on Bay of Islands in New Zealand by Sharon Dirlam on May 26 does Paihia an injustice. There are many places to stay in the village and its environs other than the resort hotel out in Waitangi.

We visited last October. The public relations office at P.O. Box 70 in Paihia was great about the booking we made from California. We explained what we wanted and they filled the request. We wanted something by the water and in the price range of $65 N.Z. It resulted in a three-day stay at Beach Haven Lodge, which was fronted by an excellent and popular restaurant, the Courtyard. There were several other restaurants in the village that we enjoyed, one of which was the Tides.

Our enjoyment of all of New Zealand was so great that we are planning a return trip in the near future.
