Moscow Trees Dying From Winter Road Salt

MOSCOW — Thousands of trees have failed to burst into leaf in Moscow this spring because their roots have absorbed salts used to clear ice and snow from the roads in winter, an official magazine said Friday.
The weekly Nedelya said botanists were trying to revive the trees by nourishing them and washing their trunks but many along the capital’s central avenues would have to be replanted.
