A fire caused about $100,000 in damage to a North Park clothing store Friday, a Fire Department spokesman reported.
The two-alarm fire also damaged an adjacent store but caused no injuries, Fire Department spokeswoman Ida Cheney said.
More than 50 firefighters fought the blaze at The Fashion Point, 3020 University Ave., which began about 10:45 a.m., Cheney said.
The fire was brought under control within 30 minutes and was contained in the building’s first floor, she said. However, the fire did cause about in $20,000 damages to Sacks Thrift Avenue, the building next door, she said.
According to Cheney, the clothing store reported about $75,000 in building damage and about $25,000 in lost merchandise.
Shoppers who were inside the store told investigators the fire began in a storage area near the rear of the store.
Cheney said the Metro Arson Strike Team is investigating.
