THE VENICE SUMMIT : Nakasone Will Brief Gonzalez on Meetings

MADRID — Japanese Prime Minister Yasuhiro Nakasone arrived Thursday for a three-day visit to include a briefing for Spanish Prime Minister Felipe Gonzalez on the Venice summit.
Minutes after arriving at Madrid’s Barajas airport, Nakasone was driven to Gonzalez’s official residence on the outskirts of the capital for the first of two meetings.
Spanish and Japanese diplomats said the talks will focus on the Venice summit, where leaders of the world’s major industrialized nations met this week.
“Gonzalez is eager to hear first hand what the Japanese leader has to say about Venice,” a Spanish Foreign Ministry spokesman said.
Nakasone and Gonzalez also are to discuss trade relations. Spain has a $889-million trade deficit with Japan, and Gonzalez is expected to urge Nakasone to ease restrictions on Spanish imports, diplomats said.
