County plans for commercial development of Bonelli Regional Park is prohibited under a 1971 agreement that created the park’s joint-powers authority, an advisory commission has said.
According to the agreement, the park is to be used as a regional recreational facility oriented toward major aquatic sports, camping, picnicking, riding, archery and golf, according to members of the Frank G. Bonelli Regional County Park and Recreation Area Authority Commission.
That agreement would prohibit county plans to develop a 3,000-seat amphitheater and shops at the park where an aerial tramway would also be prohibited, said Patrick J. Gatti, commission chairman.
He said the group has asked the county to determine whether the agreement is binding. A response is expected in 30 days.
