A driver and passenger escaped serious injury when their parked car accidentally started and plowed into a plate glass window in a Costa Mesa shopping center, police said. The passenger, Albert Carraturo of Dana Point, was outside the car making a phone call at a pay booth when the car lurched forward, police said. Carraturo threw himself in front of the car, trying to stop it, and was carried through the window at the Sunshine Hair Co. in the K-mart Plaza at Harbor Boulevard and Wilson Street. Carraturo suffered only a minor cut, officers said. The driver, Jamie Brown-Turner, 33, of Costa Mesa, told police that the vehicle accidentally started and lurched forward when she turned on the ignition to activate the radio. She was not hurt, police said.
