High school athletes drafted by major league baseball teams should be encouraged to attend college and the professional teams should pay for it, Baseball Commissioner Peter Ueberroth said.
In a speech to 800 delegates attending the National Assn. of Collegiate Directors of Athletics, the commissioner said that baseball and the schools would benefit if the current aura of competition for high school talent was replaced by cooperation.
