About 2,300 students were evacuated for an hour from Woodrow Wilson High School in the El Sereno area when fire was discovered beneath the gymnasium floor. Los Angeles City Fire Department spokesman Jim Wells said the fire had been intentionally set. Principal Joseph Rao said it may have smoldered through the weekend. Fifty firefighters had to rip up the gym floor to quell the blaze. Damage was estimated at $156,000.
