Nashville and Franklin
In “The Other Attractions of Nashville” (April 12) Ellen Alperstein is right that the Civil War Battle of Nashville was one of the most decisive engagements of that war, but her facts become casualties when she says the fight was waged in nearby Franklin, Tenn. The five-hour Battle of Franklin, a catastrophic thing in itself, took place 15 days before and 20 miles south of the three-day Battle of Nashville. The subsequent loss at Nashville was pretty much the last gasp of the Confederacy.
