MANILA — Communist guerrillas shot and killed a town police chief and two other policemen in separate incidents Thursday, authorities said.
Gunmen believed to be members of the Communist New People’s Army struck first in the fishing town of Navotas, killing the police chief, Col. Narciso Lacson, and his police driver. At about the same time in nearby Quezon City, three suspected NPA members shot and killed constabulary Sgt. Reynaldo Legaspi while he was attending to the family store.
Since February, guerrillas have killed nine soldiers, 24 policemen and six security guards. Lawmen have gunned down 11 guerrillas, officials said.
