PHARR, Tex. — A police officer has been charged with involuntary manslaughter after allegedly pointing what he thought was an empty gun at a fellow officer during a chess game and pulling the trigger, police say.
Officer Jesus A. Ruiz, 22, was dead on arrival at McAllen Medical Center with a bullet wound in his abdomen, Pharr police spokesman Lt. Jesse Medina said last week.
Noe Lara, 31, a police officer in nearby McAllen, was charged with involuntary manslaughter and was later released on $20,000 bond, Medina said.
